Rathmore and St Mary’s Magherafelt crowned joint winners of the NI Schools’ Business Challenge!
On Thursday 2nd February, a group of Year 13 Business Studies students visited the Queens University School of Management to compete in the Northern Ireland Schools’ Business Challenge. The competition sets students a complex business case study and challenge and asks them to present their recommendations back to expert judging panels comprising of Directors from Henderson Group, BDO NI and members of the QUB teaching staff. The team comprised of Lucy Barr, Eva Gray, Rachel McCarthy and Katie O’Reilly were announced as joint winners along with St Mary’s Grammar, Magherafelt.
Speaking of the team’s success, Mr McKeown who accompanied the team said, “This is a fantastic achievement for these girls who have worked tirelessly on their presentation over the past ten weeks. Through taking part in the competition, they have developed their skills of research, collaboration and problem solving. The competition gives them a unique opportunity to showcase their talent and skills in front of industry leading professionals. We are immensely proud of their achievement and look forward to seeing what they do next. I’d also like to congratulate the team from St Mary’s and their teacher, Mr McCauley on an excellent presentation in the final.”
The team now await their prize of VIP passes to a Belfast Giants game and a follow up visit to BDO NI offices in Belfast. Thank you to Queens University for hosting the event and to BDO NI and Henderson Group for their sponsorship of the competition.
